The biggest concern with China-sourced products is quality control. Here is exactly how we address it — from the moment you submit a brief to the moment your goods arrive in the UK.
The question we hear most often: “How do we know the quality will actually be right when it arrives from China?” This page is our answer — not a promise, but a documented process.
Every order — catalogue or bespoke — begins with a clear written specification. Product dimensions, material grade, branding method, colour references (Pantone where relevant), packaging requirements, and delivery schedule. Nothing is left ambiguous.
Gareth's 25+ years of China sourcing means we don't use platforms or sourcing agents to find factories. We have direct, longstanding relationships with manufacturers across Yiwu, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Ningbo, and Dongguan — each selected based on their track record with specific product types.
For every bespoke order, we produce a physical sample before bulk production begins. Our in-China team coordinates sample production, reviews it against spec, and ships it to you for approval. We manage as many revision rounds as the product requires. Bulk production only starts after your written approval.
Our quality testing team is based locally in China and maintains active communication with our factory partners during production. For larger orders, they conduct a mid-production visit. Any deviation from the approved sample is flagged immediately — before it becomes a full-batch problem.
This is the step that protects you. Our QC team visits the factory after production completes and conducts a systematic pre-shipment inspection — checking product dimensions, branding accuracy, colour fidelity, material quality, packaging condition, and carton count. A full written report is issued before goods are released.
We manage the complete export and import chain: export documentation, HS code classification, customs clearance, freight forwarding (air or sea), and final-mile UK delivery. You don't deal with any of it. Your goods arrive at the address you specified, on the date we agreed.
Production is held at the factory. Our QC team documents the non-conformances, notifies the factory, and oversees remediation before goods are released. In cases where remediation isn't possible within your timeline, we discuss options with you directly — which may include partial shipment, replacement, or a refund. We've never shipped a product we knew to be non-conforming.
Catalogue orders are produced by factories we've worked with for years and whose quality track record is well established. We don't conduct pre-shipment inspection on every catalogue order, but we maintain factory audit records and periodic quality reviews. For large catalogue orders (5,000+ units), we can arrange inspection on request.
Our QC team is locally based in China and works in Mandarin directly with factory management and production supervisors. This is a significant advantage over remote-only models — misunderstandings about spec are far less likely when the conversation happens in person, in the right language, at the factory.
In principle, yes — and Gareth has facilitated this for several clients on larger or ongoing orders. In practice, most clients are happy to rely on our QC team's reports. If you want a factory visit, let us know when you submit your brief and we'll incorporate it into the project plan.
Requirements vary by product type. For most orders we work with ISO 9001-certified factories. For apparel, we require GOTS or OEKO-TEX certification for eco lines. For electrical items, CE and UK CA marking is standard. We maintain certification documentation for all active factory partners and can provide copies on request.
We track on-time delivery against the committed delivery date for every order. Our current rate is 98.4% on-time. The cases where we've missed a date have almost exclusively involved force majeure events (port congestion, national holidays, weather). We notify clients proactively the moment we detect a risk to the schedule.
Submit a sourcing brief and our team will walk you through exactly how this process would apply to your specific product and timeline.

Pre-shipment inspection is the step most China sourcing operations skip or do on paper. Ours is conducted in person, by a locally-based team member, at the factory. Here is exactly what they check.
Every pre-shipment inspection generates a written report — photos of the product and branding, measurements against spec, pass/fail by checklist item, and our recommendation on whether to release the shipment.
